The College has a long history of excellence in Music Education. Over the last 25 years, we have been at the forefront of Music Education in QLD.
The music program has a strong influence within the College, and all students from Years 5 to 12 are encouraged to be involved in a large variety of ensembles encompassing many standards, musical styles and genres. Over the last twenty-five years, Ashgrove has been at the forefront of Music Education in Queensland with students successfully participating in numerous performances, national and international tours, camps and competitions as well as playing a vital role in the performing and liturgical life of the College.
The co-curricular program runs in conjunction with an extensive classroom music program. In 2017, there are 7 classes of Senior Music, including two classes of Music Extension. Old Boys of the College have gone on to perform, record and compose professionally with various national and international classical, jazz and rock artists and ensembles including the Berlin Philharmonic, The Paris Opera Orchestra, Nigel Kennedy, The Sydney Symphony Orchestra, The Queensland Symphony Orchestra, The Ten Tenors, James Morrison and rock group Ball Park Music.
Communication is critical to the running of the Music Department. Each fortnight the College newsletter has a dedicated page to Music News and it is vital that both students & parents refer to this. The Online Newsletter is sent home to both day and boarding students and is also available online.
